Website Guidelines for Your Business
Doesn’t it feel like every day there is a new way to market your business online, engage with customers or find new information? I can’t even count how many people have asked me “What exactly is Google+ anyway?”! With so many options and an ever changing environment, it can be difficult to decide where to prioritize your time and effort. For every business, the right answer is – Start a Blog.
If you are a successful small business already, you have a website. Make that website work more effectively by adding a blog page. Why is a blog a great way to differentiate your business?
- New Content – A blog is the easiest way to add new content to your web presence consistently. Weekly or Monthly blogs give your customers something new to discover when they are on your site. And most importantly, search engines love new content. The fresher your content, the more likely the search engine algorithms will detect your site for your key words. With new blog content relative to your industry and key words will position your site higher in search engine results.
- Material for your Marketing Campaigns – a new blog post is a perfect way to engage your customers on a new topic, remind them of something they should be doing more regularly and enable them to share your business with their friends. With a new blog post, the avenues are endless. Share in your email marketing campaigns, on Facebook, on Google+ or Instagram.
- Demonstrate your knowledge in your specialty – When new customers are looking for a new product or provider, they will most likely view your website to determine if you are a potential for them. With a blog, you demonstrate your knowledge in your specialty, show you want to help your customers by educating them and you create a more personal connection with your website visitors.
- Reiterate your brand – Whatever your branding goals, a blog can be an excellent avenue to tell your branding story. Blog posts about how you got started in your business, your business goals for the upcoming year or how your business has involved overtime, can all reiterate your brand. This can be a very effective way to connect with your customers in a more personal way that your website simply doesn’t do.
- Share customer stories – Have a particularly funny, heart-warming or alarming customer experience? With the approval of that customer, sharing it on your blog can be hugely impactful. It demonstrates the trust a customer has put in you and your business, makes your business more “real” to new customers and allows you to connect to new customers in a different way.
Ok, so clearly you are sold on started a new blog, right?! Not sure how to get started? If you already have a website, adding a new page to your website for blog posts shouldn’t be too hard for you or your web designer to do. Once it’s added, make a goal for how consistently you will post and get started. I think you will find it can be very fun and rewarding, in addition to great for your business.
